PickeringMSC TPASC First Thursday of the Month Reminder

Please note the following information regarding TPASC:

  • If you were a member for the 2022/23 season, the pass you received at time should again work. If you have misplaced it let us know and we will have a new one printed.
  • I you are a new member we will have a card printed for you and you will be advised when it is ready. In the meantime, simply indicate at the front desk that you are with PickeringMSC and they should let in.
  • This our first Thursday of the month Long course swim at TPASC. If you are otherwise a Thursday swimmer at Dunbarton, please come to TPASC. Also note that all swims at TPASC start at 8:30 pm.

The Pickering Masters Swim Club for the 2023-2024 season is off to a great start.  It is good to reconnect with old friends and to meet new members. Welcome! Many have registered for the Fall season but please ensure that you pick your preferred time slots and follow-up with your fees through an e-transfer to etransfer@pickeringmsc.ca.

You’re invited to join us for the Pickering MSC Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m. at the Lone Star Texas Grill at 705 Kingston Rd in Pickering (in the plaza just east of Whites Rd. Please RSVP to secretary@pickeringmsc.ca.  We have already heard positive feedback and interest from members regarding attending the AGM as it provides an opportunity to meet your fellow swimmers in a friendly social environment. Come and enjoy a drink, some appetizers, or even a meal.

This meeting is necessary to confirm the Club Executive Slate of Officers who will provide leadership to ensure the Club is financially sustainable and is meeting the needs of the members.  As well, the current financial statement will be presented and requires approval.  An important focus of the meeting will be an open discussion about this year’s swim season and your interests going forward. Please consider your involvement in the Club and be prepared to bring your knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for swimming to shape the future of the Club.

PickeringMSC Fall 2023 Season Startup for 2023/24 Season

Hello fellow swimmers. We hope you had a great summer and are ready to dive back into the pool. It is time to sign up for the 2023/24 Pickering MSC season  using the website https://pickeringmsc.ca/membership/ .

Our first swim will be Monday September 18. Before our initial swim, we would like to invite all returning members, as well as any who may be interested in finding out more about the Club, to join in an information session to be held from 8:00 pm – 8:45 pm in the downstairs meeting room at the Dunbarton pool. This is a great opportunity to reconnect with your fellow swimmers, meet the Club executive, coaches, and learn about the upcoming swim season. 

Swim Times Review:

  • Monday 9:00 – 10:00 pm at Dunbarton HS Indoor Pool (DIP)
  • Tuesday 8:30 – 9:30 pm at Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (TPASC)
  • Thursday 9:00 – 10:00 pm at Dunbarton HS Indoor Pool (DIP)
    • Except for first Thursday of the Month 8:30 – 9:30 pm at TPASC pm (Long Course – 50m)
  • Saturday 8:00 – 9:00 Am at Dunbarton HS Indoor Pool (DIP)

We are excited to have back our coaching staff of Rene St. Auben and Liane Coholan.  They will be working hard to provide motivational workouts and stroke improvement to promote your swimming goals, whether these be for competition (Pool & Triathlon) or for fitness.

Whether you are a beginner or an expert, you will find a place in our club that suits your level and goals. We offer swim sessions for adults of all abilities. You will also enjoy our friendly and supportive community of swimmers who will motivate you and challenge you to improve.               

If you haven’t yet signed up for the 2023/24 season and fall swim sessions go to https://pickeringmsc.ca/membership/ :

  1. Join the Club for the 2023/24 season which includes member registration and MSO registration with the required release waiver forms.
  2. Choose and sign up for your fall swim time(s)
  3. Send your e-transfer to etransfer@pickeringmsc.ca. This would include your $15 MSO/Club registration fee and your session fee.  
  4. For those new to the club, as indicated on the web site, you can try a swim or two before you decide to officially join. First you need complete the member registration and complete the required release waiver forms at https://pickeringmsc.ca/membership/ . An e-mail note to membership@PickeringMSC.ca  would also be appreciated indicating which swim time you would like to try a swim.

2023 PickeringMSC March News

Swim Ontario (SO) Master’s Provincial Swim Meet

For PMSC members who are interested, the Swim Ontario (SO) Masters Provincial swim meet will now be held on May 6 and 7 at the Etobicoke Olympium (it was originally scheduled to take place at the end of March). The entry deadline is Wed. April 26. More information can be found here:


As mentioned in the Nov. 2022 PMSC Newsletter, there are two Masters organizations in Ontario: Swim Ontario (SO) and Masters Swimming Ontario (MSO). PMSC is registered with MSO and there are swim meets hosted by this organization. PMSC Members can also attend meets sanctioned by SO if they pay an annualized fee of $60 to become an unaffiliated Swim Ontario Member (SOM). Please the access the registration form HERE and then send to heather@swimontario.com to register with SO.

Once this is paid, then each person must pay an $85 plus HST registration fee for the May 6/7 competition. There is an online registration form to enter the events you wish to swim, with a maximum of eight individual events. If there is enough interest PMSC will be able to enter relays. 

March Break

As indicated on the calendar https://pickeringmsc.ca/members/ club swims are cancelled from Monday March 13, 2023 – Saturday March 18, 2023. Thus out last swim before the March break is Saturday Mach 11, 2023. Resuming on Monday March 20, 2023.

The club recommends that all club members acquire certain pieces of equipment to maximize the swim sessions which include kick board (although often available at the pool), pull buoy, fins, and paddles. Please visit https://pickeringmsc.ca/pickeringmsc-market-place/ (link in https://pickeringmsc.ca/members/) for some equipment the club has for sale. Otherwise visit the aquatic equipment suppliers mentioned. If you want free shipping e.g.  Triboutique, and can not make the minimum order amount for free shipping, let us know and we can combined some orders to get that.

Important, please review the following upcoming scheduling changes and cancellation reminders.

Monday February 20, 2023 – practice at Dunbarton cancelled as per Family Day.

Thursday March 2, 2023 TPASC practice moved to Dunbarton 9:00 – 10:00 pm (as per Winter Ontario Swimming Championships – March 1st – March 5th, 2023)

Monday March 13 – Saturday March 18, 2023 – practices at Dunbarton and TPASC cancelled as per March Break.

Tuesday March 28, 2023 TPASC practice moved to Dunbarton 9:00 – 10:00 pm  (as per Canadian Swimming Trials – March 25th-April 2nd, 2023)
